Abstract

In this course, we introduce you to public spaces, street networks and their analysis for urban design, as well as to models for simulating the process of land use distributions and the corresponding traffic flows. We use an example of a small town that can be generated from scratch in order to analyse various development paths depending on the used parameters and conditions.

We use the software Grasshopper, therefore a basic knowledge of this software is of advantage.

Learning objectives

The objective of this course is to enable you to model and simulate the main dynamic mechanisms of land use distributions and traffic flows. The understanding of the various control parameters allows you to steer the urban development by specific planning actions.

At the end of the course, you are able to develop a concept for your own land use and traffic simulation, implement it and use it as a basis for your urban planning strategy.

The knowledge provided through online seminars.

Requirements

It is recommended that you first participate in the course Parametric Urban Design and Analysis, since we require basic knowledge in parametric design, spatial analysis, and visual programming with Grasshopper for Rhino3D.
