The Cultural Center “Gabriel Garcia Marquez” by the architect Rogelio Salmona, located in the historic downtown of the Bogota City. It is a perfect example of how the form and design process is correlated with the function.
As a cultural center, the main purpose of the building was to exalt the previous knowledge of the native American people, and their close interaction with the sun and the moon. At the same time, the architect wanted to create a perfect interaction of the building with its neighborhood. So, according to this complex challenge, Salmona created the building’s shape from the morphology lines of the colonial context, and then he transformed these shapes into 2 perfects circles of differents floors to represent the relationship with the cosmos of the indigenous believes.
